Spring Into Action at Refresh Amsterdam & BIO-Europe Spring
BIO-Europe Spring is on its way and Refresh is coming with it. Amsterdam is our next Refreshing stop!
We’re inviting you to join us at BIO-Europe Spring where we are co-hosting Refresh on the 14th March at 2:30 pm. Escape the hustle and bustle of the conference for a chilled out Refresh with panel discussions and a fireside chat all about startups. Get ready to meet some great people, listen to awesome speakers, and enjoy some free beer 🍺
Because BIO-Europe Spring is in the popular crowd for biotech events, we’re going to have to be a little bit selective about who can attend. This means there are two steps to apply for Refresh:
We will have a look at all the applications and let you know if we have a spot for you. Invites will be sent out between the 19th of February and the 10th of March. Preference will be given to those in a startup or who are planning on starting their own company.
As always, attendance to Refresh is free. We also have an added bonus for attendees who are not attending BIO-Europe Spring – a free pass for the rest of the Wednesday afternoon, which includes the closing reception. What a bargain!
If you are already attending the conference you’ll be able to spot us floating around looking super cool in our Labiotech t-shirts. 😎 Make sure you say hi!
Panel – How to grow a successful biotech startup
Biotech companies are a high-risk, long-term venture, making it particularly challenging to raise funds and scale a successful company. For the startups making a debut in the biotech world, it is important to foresee the challenges they will encounter along the way. This panel will gather biotech companies at various stages of development, from early R&D to commercialization, to discuss the main challenges they are facing and how they are solving them.
1. Eduardo Bravo – CEO of TiGenix
After beginning his career in big pharma, Eduardo Bravo took the plunge into biotech in 2005 when he saw the opportunity for a breakthrough therapy at a small Spanish biotech called Cellerix. The company became part of TiGenix in 2011, and when they merged, Bravo became CEO.
2. Shelley Margetson – CEO of Gadeta
Before joining with Gadeta, Shelley was the CFO at Merus where she helped to raise over €100M in private financing rounds from blue-chip VCs and big pharma corporate venture investors. She also led the successful IPO of Merus on Nasdaq. A financing genius!
3. Thomas de Vlaam – Founder/ CEO of Amylon Therapeutics
De Vlaam came up with AT-010, a drug candidate for the treatment of Katwijk‘s disease, during his time at ProQR. When it became clear that he had something huge on his hands, he led the charge as CEO to form Amylon. The company, based in Leiden, focuses on CNS disorders using an ultra-genetics approach.
Fireside chat – Funding strategies for biotech startups
In this one-to-one session, we will talk with a biotech investor about the trends, opportunities, and risks to take into account and how to best tackle them to make your company attractive to investors. We’ll discuss the most effective strategies to pitch your biotech startup, find investors that match your goals and ultimately, raise the funds that will turn your technology into a successful venture.
Martin Muenchbach – Partner at BB Biotech Ventures
Martin is a VC who has had a lot of experience investing in life sciences across all stages and types. His resume is a pretty impressive one with assignments including 4-Antibodies AG & more!
